FUT 23: Lionel Messi POTM SBC leaked

In some of the least surprising news you’re ever going to hear related to FIFA 23, it appears that we are set to receive a new Lionel Messi Player of the Month Squad Building Challenge.

EA Sports has been slowly delivering new content to Ultimate Team every day since its release, and one such example is the continuous POTM SBCs.

Players are given fresh cards from the Premier League, Ligue 1, the Bundesliga, La Liga, and Serie A, with them often receiving huge upgrades in-game.

And we have now had it confirmed, via a leak, that the new Ligue 1 POTM is none other than the GOAT himself, Messi.

The 35-year-old has been in remarkable form in recent weeks, scoring two goals and laying on five assists in the last six games, as per Transfermarkt.

He has been impeccable in the French league this season, scoring five goals and registering seven assists in 10 games, while also netting twice in the Champions League, against Maccabi Haifa and Benfica.

As per MoreFUT, a website that has been indirectly endorsed by the noted leaker FUT Sheriff, Messi is going to be the new POTM.

In FIFA 22, all Ligue 1 POTMs were released on Thursday, bar one, so we could well receive Messi later this week.

He already has two hugely expensive cards in FIFA 23: A 91-base gold card and a 92-rated Road to the Knockouts card.

It remains to be seen if the POTM will receive a major boost over the latter, which had 82 pace, 95 dribbling, 90 shooting, 35 defending, 92 passing and 66 physical.

That card is currently selling for over 1.1 million coins, while the base gold card is selling for just over 250,000 coins.

It presents an interesting dilemma for EA Sports; they undoubtedly need to upgrade the base card, although it is not clear if it will match the RTTK card, which will be continually updated the deeper PSG go into the competition.

It is likely that the SBC will be hugely expensive; last year, in FIFA 22, there was a similar story when Cristiano Ronaldo won the Premier League POTM and his SBC was priced at over 2 million coins.
